2 days after Christmas, not much to write. Eagles are going to win tonight and go 12-4. 3rd straight NFC East title. They get a bye week to heal, but it looks like Westbrook may miss the playoffs. Redwolf's Den is still there, but I've been holding my next two updates due to my inability to decide how to approach posting a link to someone I haven't talked to in over 20 years. How would you feel if your name popped up on google with a link to a 26 year old picture? Oh, yeah, and update to my home networking post. I finally got a replacement for my first Netgear WGR 614. Amazon screwed me on the rebate. It's working, but I can't say I'm totally happy with Netgear right now. Friday, December 26, 2003

I still hate Xanga. Maybe if I write a post here, I can just copy it into redwolf7782 on Xanga and it will work. I've been so busy with work, Christmas and C3C that I haven't written anything for a while. I've had numerous thoughts about the pictures on Redwolf's Den. but I haven't gotten them written down. Maybe I can capture some of it over the holiday. Quick update, the pix hit google. Wednesday, December 17, 2003

My New WordsIn my November 5 post about Matt Miller's Two Percent Solution I christened his philosophy as either postneoliberalism or neopostliberalism. Now you can find Scoreless Tie by searching these terms on Google. In another update, Tuesday Morning Quarterback is back. New Redwolf's Den Go North Penn Knights Football! Friday, November 07, 2003

EconomicsMatt Miller was on Radio Times today (Nov. 5) when I went to get lunch. I found Matt pretty interesting, and even though the plan outlined in his book sounds to me like it could be the basis for "neo-liberalism," I am intrigued. Then again, several people have already decided what neoliberalism is. Post-liberalism has also been defined (both politically and theologically). Google didn't come up with anything for neopost-liberalism, so there you are. I crown the Two Percent Solution as neopostliberalism! Wait! Maybe it should be postneoliberalism.Lunch is over. Go to twix.com for dessert. (A high speed connection helps). Thursday, October 23, 2003
Live by the Blog, Die by the BlogMickey Kaus sums it up pretty well in Kausfiles (you have to page down to the Oct. 20 entry.) Damn you, Gregg Easterbrook! Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. The problem is that it doesn't feed him, it feeds me and millions (well at least thousands) of thinking football fans everywhere. TMQ has been completely excised from ESPN.com's page 2. (No links - this sux!) A quick search doesn't show me anything to add to Mr. Kaus's review of the sitchiation, so I won't write any more. Except a quick link to a google news search. No telling what it will bring up when you click it.Thursday, October 09, 2003
What does Jeeves thinkI asked Jeeves: Will Andy Reid keep his job?. This seemed to give old answers, so I checked the news button and got this. I wonder who is worse off, the Philadelphia Eagles or Leeds United?Web ConferencingWe want to have a meeting over the web. What to do? Here are some things I've looked at:This web conferencing gude from buyerzone is very interesting. I've requested quotes, we'll see what we get. Webex advertises everywhere. Looks like it's a possibility. Meetingplace looks too expensive. Thinkofit.com has a webconferencing guide, but it's not as nice as buyerzone. We shall see what happens. Monday, September 29, 2003
Wireless NetworkingHere are some links I've collected in my search for wireless networking info. HomeNetHelp.com is nicely laid out and has some good info, but I have a lot of connection problems. The Anandtech Networking forum has some good info, but the best part for me was the link to ezian.net. Ezian then linked me to a 802.11g performance chart at Wi-Fi Planet. PC Magazine has a product guide for wireless networking. Need to check out reviews on Amazon for anything I might want to buy.Well, I bought the Netgear stuff, hooked it up, and then couldn't communicate through the wire to the router! Here are some links I found while trying to figure out my problem: Practically Networked Wireless Network Troubleshooting - This JSI FAQ has some interesting stuff, but I don't know if it will help me. I am dreading a call to NetGear tech support. Everything I saw in the Amazon & epinions reviews described the tech support as dreadful. Maybe if my expectations are low enough, I will be pleasantly surprised. Played around some, it seems like the problem may be dhcp related. I found this thread at Dux Computer Digest. Another link on the AMD site. This techadvice site looks interesting. TCP/IP info on myob.com. Home networking question on computing.net. Another update. It's been almost a week. Things aren't working right. I can't communicate from my laptop to the router. I can't plug the laptop directly into the modem and use my broadband connection. Hopefully, I can get this cleared up within the next couple of days. Thursday, September 25, 2003
GenomesAll Things Considered had a piece on a partial dog genome. Here is a science update from nature. The whole thing made me think that decoding a mammal genome would be a cool project if I won a huge powerball jackpot. I was thinking maybe a farm animal could provide a lot of data that could be used to improve food production. Tuesday, September 23, 2003
How fast can you go today? In response to a question about our internet speed at work, I found a few sites to help check it out: Heck this is too much work. Here is the google search Monday, September 22, 2003
I edited an older entry to try to get the blog straightened out (I forgot to put my /commands in). This only made things worse. Oh, well. You could always read Dixon Environmental. Sunday, September 21, 2003
Blogging from Cape MayI'm writing this (at least the beginning) froim the Magic Brain Cyber cafe in Cape May, NJ. It's a beautiful weedend, and my time is almost up, so this will be stream of consciousness for now. Father Collins' homily this morning was about human life, and he mentioned that only human's smile and laugh (I knwo there are animals, too, but later for that). Of course, that brought to mind schadenfreude and the laugh of someone who was doing evil. There was a lot more, but my consciousness stream, and my time, are running dry. Maybe I will update this later into something that makes sense. Maybe not. Tuesday, September 16, 2003
Miscellany againSome stuff I've found. Maybe some of it will make it over to Redwolf's Den. Firing Squad claims to be the "Home of the Hardcore Gamer." They have some interesting stuff. They also had a banner add linking to America's Story from America's Library, an info site from the US Library of Congress. I also found the JAlbum download at CNET's Download.com. It could help with pix for Redwolf's Den.Friday, September 12, 2003

I Have No Mouth & I Must ScreamIt's a book - It's a video game - It's an explanation for Hello Kitty. I was looking through the stacks at the Chester County Library, and I found the strategy guide for "I have no mouth...". I've read a lot of science fiction, and like Harlan Ellison, but I hadn't heard about this story / video game. Here is another review of "I have no mouth" (the video game). Harlan has a review on his site, too.
Miscellaneous junk I know I've blogged stuff from MTU before, but Noel Urban's page has some interesting links to environmental eng problems along with solutions. Wednesday, September 03, 2003
That's how it is | What's up? I couldn't get on Blogger yesterday. I've just been staying at home waiting for something to happen, but I guess it doesn't bother me. Eh. My life's been pretty bland. What can I say? My mind is like a complete blank. I can't be bothered with anything recently. You could try looking at totse.com. Or check out some jargon at Chris Pirillo's Blog. This is definitely a blahg. Current Mood: ho hum What's up with this? Thursday, August 28, 2003
North Penn Blogging In honor of my older son starting his first (sophomore) year at North Penn High School, I did a search for North Penn blogs. And besides me. I found some other interesting stuff. Like his new principal. More later (maybe) Later: North Penn should be showing up a lot in the PA Blitz Blog with the football team dominating their 1st 3 games. We'll have to see if Isabelle let's them get in this week's game. And then there's the intriguing and evanescent Madison McGraw and her Chicks Dig Books web site. Her blogspot site is the other above, although it's kind of "now you see it, now you don't". Monday, August 25, 2003
>Off on a tangent led me to Mark Stevens' weblog. Stevens has written a book called Your Marketing Sucks. Looks interesting. Oh, yeah, I found a link to OldComputers.net. Have to tell Josh about the Atari 800. Friday, August 22, 2003

Does MS Exchange drive you crazy? It tends to make me nuts. Periodically, everyone has trouble accessing out server. And what's with OWA? I suppose I could take an online course, but I don't know how much it would really help. There are web sites, like www.msexchange.org, but unless there is an article titled, "How to run through your Linksys router into Comcast HSI and get on an Exchange Server 5.5 system using Outlook 2000," I'm not sure how much help it will be. O'Reilly publishes books like Managing Microsoft Exchange Server. Of course, the closest copy I can find in a library is in Pittsburgh. Monday, August 11, 2003

Do you find it annoying when bloggers just post links with a brief, sometimes cryptic tag and no real description? If you do, better find another blog to look at. Homestar RunnerHomestar is getting a lot of press lately. Today, the Cincinnati Equirer published an article. On June 23, there was this article in Wired News. It got this response the next day. In between, there was a Homestar article in the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Colorado Daily tells you how to find out more about Homestar Runner and other easter eggs and Boston's Weekly Dig gives a blurb, too. Oh, yeah, there was a TechTV Cat's Clicks for Homestar, too. I guess Homestar makes you do crazy things, eh, Cat?
I liked this ThirdAge article on improving you metabolism for weight control. I also liked Chad Tackett's Home/Travel Strength Training Exercises that were referenced in the article. Friday, July 18, 2003

StuffThis probably wouldn't get blogged here, except I haven't written anything for 2 weeks. Third Age has a column called Tech Insider (link is to the archive). Some of the articles looked interesting, although I haven't read them yet.Weeelllllll... This paragraph changed as I wrote it. FatWallet had a thread about some good prices on those tiny pc boxes. I was going to link to a vendor mentioned in the thread (not the original at the top of the thread - farther down), but I checked reseller ratings and they had a serious problem with customer service. Therefore, I won't mention the name. Remember, always check reseller ratings before you buy online. Au revoir. Tuesday, July 01, 2003

I had read a story and lost track of it, but after the doctor at my annual physical basically told me, "Get on cholesterol medication or die," I became more interested in Teaching Old Drugs New Tricks. I was especially intrigued by the line, "promising findings that the amino acid homocysteine might be as good as, or possibly better than, cholesterol at predicting heart disease languished for more than a decade because of lack of funding." Hopefully, more later. Wednesday, May 21, 2003

Reefer ProblemsMy bizarre web journey began with my boss asking me what I thought I client meant about having a procedure to deal with "reefer problems." Well, if you search Google for "reefer" you get a lot of Reefer Madness related links. It's only on the 2nd page that you start running into the refrigerated trailer info. But it's also where you hit the Wordspy link for reefer. I found Wordspy to be captivating. I'm not going to list all the words I looked at, but camgirl led me to an interesting site. And somehow alpha girl mutated into Tery Wong. Alpha girls also led me to Wolf Cries, a rape survivor site. Now, I have to get back to work. TTYL.Monday, April 21, 2003

Fleeting ThoughtsI have too much other stuff to do to really blog anything, but I wanted to capture this. As anyone in my family will tell you, I need to get more organized, especially in the "man's domain" of the basement and garage. So I searched "get organized" on iwon. It turns out that getting organized is so popular that there are site names based on it: getorganizednow.com and get-organized.com. Well, it's here for posterity, so when I get around to it, the links are here. Maybe I need this tape. Or this search.10 Steps to Getting What YOU Want in Life - Hmm... Wednesday, April 16, 2003

Take the Testat politicalcompass.org. I was pretty close to dead center.Or check out Rebecca's blog for the Guess the Dictator and/or Television Sit-Com Character. Hmmmm...The boys were watching Cubix: Robots for Everyone and during one scene, a character said, “Has your robot always dreamed of being in the circus?” Which, of course, made me wonder, “DO androids dream of electric sheep?” I was going to make some Rick Deckerd reference here. Maybe about Rick making a guest appearance on Cubix. But I want to publish something else and stop thinking about this.Thursday, March 27, 2003
Miscellany Michael Moore criticism - http://www.moorewatch.com The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation's info on stuff in SE PA - culturefiles Whatever dude (as a bonus it includes criticism of Michael Moore) - www.whatever-dude.com Is anyone writing to support Michael Moore? I'm really loving the blog twinning project. Tomorrow I'm going to find acid logic via a blog that I'm not going to name. I also found tv cream - an interesting British site with commentary on old television shows and other old things. Then there is this. I don't understand it. It occurs to me that a large percentage of bloggers are described by "Hi, I am a 2_ year old computer programmer and ____." Not me, though. I am a 44 year old engineer and lunatic. This MetaFilter thread has some interesting mathematics links, for example:

Some stuff I don't want to forgetLunch hour finds: Robert Graysmith at Chester County Library System. He also wrote the book for Auto Focus, the story of Bob Crane. CCLS also has the DVD.On a more normal note, Lockergnome featured blogstreet as its GnomeFAVORITE today. Indirectly, that's what got me over to all the Bob Crane stuff. You see, Lileks watched the movie and was talking about it in today's Bleat. I picked him off of blogstreet. Just like the truth laid bear. And the blog twinning project. TTFN Friday, March 21, 2003

3. What were the last three things you purchased? Pizza, lunch, gas
4. What four things do you need to do this weekend? Take the kids to the orthodontist, work, go to church, clean.
5. Who are the last five people you talked to? wife, kids, in-laws.

On-line ShoppingSometimes shopping on-line is a dream - it's convenient, you get a good price and everything is right with the world. Other times it can be Kafka-esque in how difficult it is to find what you want. I've been trying to buy a digital camera for over a month now. I really like the HP Photosmart 850. I would put a link, but I don't have one that I like. The street price is about $500. Amazon occassionally drops the price 5 to 10% as a teaser, but I'm still not ready to spend over $450 for this camera. The other camera I'm considering is the Fuji FinePix 3800. It's a little less camera than the HP PS850, but it's about $150 less to buy. If I had to buy today, I'd probably go with the Fuji. My brother bought the HP, though, and I took a few pictures with it at Christmas. It's a nice camera. Well, we will see what happens. On the other hand, sometimes you find some cool stuff. Like Startech.com's Comp2VGA signal converter. It lets you take your composite or S-video signal and display it on your VGA monitor. Now you can play your Gamecube or PS2 on a spare monitor! As a special bonus, here is a list of Pricegrabber's video capture cards. The COMP2VGA is near the bottom of the first page for less than $50. Thursday, January 16, 2003
Just Gottablog this stuff. Cory Doctorow's web site is called craphound - named after his first published story, Craphound. Cory's bio tells stuff about him, like he's a 31 year old Torontoan (Torontoite? Torontonan? Torontoad?). You can download his latest book Down & Out in the Magic Kingdom. I blogged there from Lawrence Lessig's blog - too bad he lost Eldred. Oh, yeah, Alex Lightman - genius or fraud?Friday, January 10, 2003
Workin' the BlogJust trying to get some info on Pharma MACT equations has led me to a DOE report on Analysis of Strategies for Reducing Multiple Emissions from Electric Power Plants: Sulfur Dioxide, Nitrogen Oxides, Carbon Dioxide, and Mercury and a Renewable Portfolio Standard. Looks like it might be interesting, but it's off topic.Environmental-Expert.com has more interesting stuff on their site, an Environmental Software House and limited security. What is truly bizarre is that all the stuff in the aforementioned directory is Essential Technologies (ETi) stuff that was posted in November 2002. It still has all the ETi logos and contact info, even though ETi had closed down and been taken over by Environmental Support Solutions. Maybe they just hadn't gotten around to updating the literature yet. Toby Hanna & Ken Weiss wrote a CEP Magazine article about the MON rule. I should read it sometime. Still can't find anything easy about the calc's (I could read the rule, but that would give me a headache). I found a company that I drive right by several times a week in Flemington, NJ (home of the 1st trial of the 20th century) called EnfoTech. I should stop and see them sometime. I also found an Excel file with all the pharmaceutical companies in the UK. E-mail me (redwolfeighttwo at att.net - only use the digits for the numbers, not the words) if you want a copy. I finally found an summary on the Pharmaceutical MACT Rule Assistant. They give all the process vent equations in their own little section. Thursday, January 09, 2003
