Wireless Networking

Here are some links I've collected in my search for wireless networking info. HomeNetHelp.com is nicely laid out and has some good info, but I have a lot of connection problems. The Anandtech Networking forum has some good info, but the best part for me was the link to ezian.net. Ezian then linked me to a 802.11g performance chart at Wi-Fi Planet. PC Magazine has a product guide for wireless networking. Need to check out reviews on Amazon for anything I might want to buy.

Well, I bought the Netgear stuff, hooked it up, and then couldn't communicate through the wire to the router! Here are some links I found while trying to figure out my problem: Practically Networked Wireless Network Troubleshooting - This JSI FAQ has some interesting stuff, but I don't know if it will help me. I am dreading a call to NetGear tech support. Everything I saw in the Amazon & epinions reviews described the tech support as dreadful. Maybe if my expectations are low enough, I will be pleasantly surprised.

Played around some, it seems like the problem may be dhcp related. I found this thread at Dux Computer Digest. Another link on the AMD site. This techadvice site looks interesting. TCP/IP info on myob.com. Home networking question on computing.net.

Another update. It's been almost a week. Things aren't working right. I can't communicate from my laptop to the router. I can't plug the laptop directly into the modem and use my broadband connection. Hopefully, I can get this cleared up within the next couple of days.

All Things Considered had a piece on a partial dog genome. Here is a science update from nature. The whole thing made me think that decoding a mammal genome would be a cool project if I won a huge powerball jackpot. I was thinking maybe a farm animal could provide a lot of data that could be used to improve food production.

How fast can you go today?

In response to a question about our internet speed at work, I found a few sites to help check it out:

  • C/NET Bandwidth Meter

  • Speedtest at the Bandwidth Place
  • Heck this is too much work. Here is the google search

I edited an older entry to try to get the blog straightened out (I forgot to put my /commands in). This only made things worse. Oh, well. You could always read Dixon Environmental.

    Blogging from Cape May

I'm writing this (at least the beginning) froim the Magic Brain Cyber cafe in Cape May, NJ. It's a beautiful weedend, and my time is almost up, so this will be stream of consciousness for now. Father Collins' homily this morning was about human life, and he mentioned that only human's smile and laugh (I knwo there are animals, too, but later for that). Of course, that brought to mind schadenfreude and the laugh of someone who was doing evil.

There was a lot more, but my consciousness stream, and my time, are running dry. Maybe I will update this later into something that makes sense. Maybe not.

    Miscellany again

Some stuff I've found. Maybe some of it will make it over to Redwolf's Den. Firing Squad claims to be the "Home of the Hardcore Gamer." They have some interesting stuff. They also had a banner add linking to America's Story from America's Library, an info site from the US Library of Congress. I also found the JAlbum download at CNET's Download.com. It could help with pix for Redwolf's Den.

I Have No Mouth & I Must Scream

It's a book - It's a video game - It's an explanation for Hello Kitty. I was looking through the stacks at the Chester County Library, and I found the strategy guide for "I have no mouth...". I've read a lot of science fiction, and like Harlan Ellison, but I hadn't heard about this story / video game. Here is another review of "I have no mouth" (the video game). Harlan has a review on his site, too.

    Miscellaneous junk

I know I've blogged stuff from MTU before, but Noel Urban's page has some interesting links to environmental eng problems along with solutions.

Now that I have broadband, it's easier to blog. Maybe I'll even update Redwolf's Den more often.

    That's how it is

What's up? I couldn't get on Blogger yesterday. I've just been staying at home waiting for something to happen, but I guess it doesn't bother me. Eh. My life's been pretty bland. What can I say? My mind is like a complete blank. I can't be bothered with anything recently. You could try looking at totse.com. Or check out some jargon at Chris Pirillo's Blog. This is definitely a blahg.
