Where are all the fans? (phillyBurbs.com) | Courier Times Sports Semi-interesting commentary. I've been to a few high school football & basketball contests over the last few years, and I've seen a variety of attendance levels. Certainly, once the playoffs come, attendance really picks up. I was at North Penn hosting Interboro last year, and there was a pretty good crowd for a cold November night.

When a contest really captures the attention of 2 communities, fans will turn out. There were over 5,000 people at the North Penn-Souderton football game. Neshaminy-CB South was heavily attended by both home team & visiting fans.

There are just too many things to do in the Philadelphia suburbs to consistently draw a big crowd. Add to the mix that many games are televised over the cable or the Internet, and it becomes a tough sell. Even so, high school football and basketball is one of the best entertainment values around, and I see families with young children at every game.

If you are reading this, and you haven't been to a high school contest recently, go out and see one.
